Restoring Hope

Restoring Hope Ministries assists Ottawa’s youth that are experiencing homelessness, marginalization, or exploitation. They accomodate youths between the ages of 16 and 24. Anyone is welcome; from all backgrounds, religions, and cultures. They offer drop-in services in the evening including board game and movie nights with meals and snacks. There are also mental health services. There are also overnight services for youth five nights a week, with no formal intake process that allows youth to stay the night even if they have no identification or are in distress. They receive snacks, clothing, and a clean bed until morning.

Caldwell Family Centre

The Caldwell Family Centre is an organization aimed at reducing poverty in Ottawa. They run food security programs, a food bank, Christmas assistance, clothing depots (paid-for) and assistance programs (free), support services, computers, school supplies and scholarships, a little library, employment programs, and more.

Snowsuit Fund

Another specific item we will be collecting is snow suits for the next winter season. Snowsuit Fund takes snowsuits from all across Ottawa and gets them into the hands of families who need assistance. The snowsuit fund prefers unused/new snowsuits, but used ones can be dropped off at Browns to be cleaned and sent to the Snowsuit Fund free of charge - so we will be facilitating this!

Dress for Success

Any business clothes we receive for women or gender non-conforming individuals will be donated to Dress for Success, an organization that works with women to prepare them for the working world through programming, counselling, and clothing. They accept like-new or new blazers, dress shirts, professional dresses, and more. Dress For Success can accept monetary donations to fund our free services and programs, visit their website to learn more about how else you can support their amazing initiatives.

Thrive Select Thrift

Thrive Select Thrift is the social enterprise of Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa. We strive to bring the community stylish, top quality, affordable second-hand clothing where 100% of the proceeds go to fund our mentorship program impacting youth in Ottawa and Renfrew county. Any clothing or textiles that are not suitable for our thrift store are put into our Clothes For Kid’s Sake program, thanks to our community partner each pound of clothing donated generates income for BBBSO.

A Social Return on investment study determined that for every 1$ invested in mentoring programs, $23 is returned to society. The benefits of mentoring go beyond the monetary return, BBBSO programs also improve the mental health, employment opportunities, and civic engagement of at-risk children over the long term.
